Question
QUESTION: Hi there! I have taken your advice and my white Frenchie recently started taking NuVet Plus wafers (about 2 weeks now). She gets a squirt of AllerG-3 Omega 3 supplement in her food once a day and a 1/2 tsp. of Prozyme in her food once a day. I feed her Blue Buffalo Natural turkey. Her skin is a nightmare! I feel so bad for her, she scratches herself silly, she has scratched her belly so badly that she has practically ripped one of her nipples off! The vet just wants to give her cortisone shots and she is only 18 months old, I don't want that for her. Basically I want to know if the Blue Buffalo food is a good choice and am asking for any other advice that you can give. Thank you so much!

ANSWER: Hi Melissa and the White Frenchie!  I am so glad you put this Frenchie on the NuVet Plus!
Give NuVET a good 60 days to see the full results of less swelling and itching.
Blue Buffalo is a good food for most dogs.  I would try some home-cooking for this kid.
Give the following 5 days per week and then 2 days go with the Life's Abundance dog food:

You can also ask your VET about giving (1) Benadryl 25 mg at bedtime each day.  Just until the NuVET and new food kick in.
Benadryl has very little to no side effects.

Here is a recipe to give Monday to Friday:

2 pounds of ground chicken ( cook)  ( use a skillet and add 2 teaspoons of olive oil)
1  cup broccoli, ( Steamed and grated)
1/2 cup of peas - Mash after cooking
1 cup rice cooked  ( white rice is fine) ( boil then add to chicken)
1 sweet potato ( cooked and  Mashed )
1 Teaspoon  of bone meal  ( You can get this at health food stores or On-line)
**** 1 NuVET wafer  (per day)- Dog vitamin supplement

Feed 1 cup in the am and 1 cup in the Pm
( total of 2 cups per day)

You can also use Cooked ground Lamb in place of chicken.

On Saturday and Sundays please give Life's Abundance Holistic Dog food:
See here to order: Delivery to your door.
Give the Dry Kibble (1/2 cup),  of Life's Abundance and 1/2 can of the Life's Abundance in the am.
Pm - give the same
THIS can be done on the weekends.
You can try the Samples or order full bag:

Last -
Please make sure she is on some PEARLS - Probiotic.... Take her off the Prozyme Product for now.
You can buy PEARLS here or at Walgreens and CVS:  ( Give 1 PEARL per day for 60 days)

Please contact me in about 30 days and provide a update:
mtnmom@gci.net

I hope this helps.
Good HOME-COOKING should be very helpful.
For snacks : Please give her the Life's Abundance Dry kibble as a snack.

BEST wishes

QUESTION: Thank you so much for your quick reply! I will be following all of your great advice. My only question is how gradually should I introduce the Home Cooked food to my Frenchie - Penny? I know that when I changed her to the Blue Buffalo I switched her food very gradually. I don't want to upset her tummy too much - thanks again!

Answer
The recipe is very easy to digest.  Blue Buffalo is a very rich food.
You can mix the Recipe and the BLUE for about 5 days.
Your little Penny should adjust to the new food very quick.
The Life's Abundance is also very easy on the belly.

Keep me posted.
