Question
Thank you Susan for responding to my inquiry.  Yes I would like the name and address of the lady you are speaking about.  Maybe we could come up with some way to provide a low fat diet that gives my bishons the nutrition they need. Thanks again, chuck

Answer
Hi Chuck,
I am annoyed. I had written you quite an informative letter and somehow it gotten eaten by cyberspace. Wonder if the lost email was low fat!!! <just joking>

Here is the email address of Donia. She is adamant and rigid about natural, holistic and organic feeding including supplements so be prepared. She also works for a supplement company and sells the finest (in my opinion) REAL FOOD supplements in the country. They are loaded with blue green algae and all of her supplements work to build compromised immune systems. They are amazing. I just want you to know that she does work for a company because at some point she will make a very appropriate suggestion about probiotics and dig enzymes. You will have to be careful here because there are certain enzymes you do NOT want triggered in your dogs...discuss this with her. You will find her amazingly smart. When you write her give her my name in the subject line so that she understands how you got her email address. She is a very, very busy lady with her company and they send her all over the world. She is flat out amazing. Ok, here is the information you need:

ME: Susan Behlmar

Hi Chuck,
I was thinking about your and your dog's diet and wondered what was happening in your life and with you dog. I contacted Donia for you and she said she
hadn't heard from you and this surprised me a bit since you sounded so interested in his diet. So, Chuck, do let me know what is happening. We are dog people and I like to check up on those who have written to me. Here's my email again: DazzlinDaawg@aol.com   bye now, Sue
HER: DoniaSea@aol.com (her name rhymes with Sonia)

Give her your facts, questions etc. and when she has time to respond you will be amazed. I will write her tonite and let her know that a 'chuck" with Bijons with pancreatitis is going to write her. This way she knows the connection.

When my Yorkie went thru pancreatitis I kept her on a low fat diet, naturally. She was not overweight so handling it was easier. I kept the fat intake under 20% and upped her carbs because carbs have a weak effect on the gastrointestinal hormones, which trigger the pancreatic enzymes. Sometimes rice in small amts is ok too but Donia is not fond of grains and now I am on that bandwagon too.

To this day, even with these dogs that do not have pancreatic problems, I add low fat cottage cheese, steam boneless, skinless ORGANIC chicken breasts and also steam ORGANIC yellow and Zucchini squash. From what I know, a canine pancreatic diet may include white meat chicken as I just described, lean and low fat ground beef, beef heart, kidney liver, egg whites, non fat PLAIN YOGURT (organic), oatmeal. STEAMED VEGGIES (not boiled) such as broocoli, cabbage, cauliflower, winter squash, sweet potatoes can ALL BE CONSIDERED SINCE ALL ARE LOW IN PHOSPHOROUS AND FAT. Of course, I also add read food probiotics, enzymes and vitamins, all loaded with blue green algae. Donia will explain this miracle food in depth.

Donia will go thru all of this more completely than I am doing but I wanted to give you head start. If you home cook you will need to add supplements but you must always keep in mind that you do not want pancreatic enzymes triggered by anything. Talk to Donia about this. To this day, I steam the organic chicken, squash and yams and my dogs are thriving. Sometimes to keep them hydreated I used the almost clear broth from the steaming of the boneless, skinless chicken breast...I dilute it mightily after that with bottled water so that my dogs are not alway getting soup instead of water. It works like a charm.

HOpe this info helped. I cannot wait until you and Donia are in touch. I will email her now and tell her about you. I think you will be very happy with her advice. Most of what I pass along on this site, I learned from her. What an education it has been. Please keep me in the loop and let me know how you are doing.
