Question
Our little "Shid Zus" love to gnaw on those cow hooves that you can buy at petsmart, etc. It helps clean their teeth and keeps them occupied for hours. The problem is the smell. They make the whole house stink. Is there any way to eliminate the oder before we let them chew on them?  Thank you.

Answer
Hmm, how best to answer this one. Ok straight up, I hate those things Not just the smell but they can be dangerous, dogs can break teeth on them, break off pieces of them, ingest them and damage their intestines. As a trade off, how about raw soup bones? Like you buy in the grocery store. Or..better yet, take a nice hollow bone or even a chew toy (such as a small kong) fill it with peanut butter mixed with dry kibble, or even one of the drier canned dog foods mixed with kibble. Stuff the bone, freeze it for a day and then give it to your babies. They will go NUTS over it and the smell is pretty much nonexistent. Go to the pet store and you'll find LOTS of toys you can stuff with treats, some are even changeable puzzles. Carob is GREAT for a treat to stuff into the toys. Your little ones will be fresher smelling and still happy :)
And if you're very brave, try bully sticks. Dogs LOVE them and I do mean love them. You have to get passed what they are though ..you can purchase them at a great price from bullysticksonline.com
