Question
Hi,
We have a belgian shepherd (malinois) dog. After having a painful spine the doctor diagnosed him with spondilosis. We changed his food which was a commercial fairly cheap one to the ACANA (always various taste) but after 3 month he refuses to eat it. What would you suggest to feed him for him to be the best?

Thanks :))
Suzanna

Answer
Now just my opinion,. but ACANA is ,,,decent dog food. They do advertise human grade and they say that there is a high percentage of meat per product...I'm not thrilled with the oats, rice and chicken fat. But it's ok. If it's what you want to continue to feed him. Stick to your guns. If you're giving him treats, STOP. if you're adding things to his food to get him to eat STOP. if you're cajoling, begging, sitting with him while he eats. you got it LOL STOP.
Put his food down for half an hour in the morning (walk away leave him with it then pick it up with NO discussion at the end of the time) repeat in the afternoon. Nothing in between. He WILL eat If you're already doing those things and he still isn't  eating, let me know we'll work on some other ideas. Meanwhile you have had him rechecked by the vet? Dogs in pain don't eat.
Good luck
