s/d food for bladder stones/crystals

Question
My dog was recently diagnosed as having bladder stones.  I am currently waiting to hear if we are using the correct antibiotic, although I can tell that she has been responding the one prescribed so far.

My concern is that she has been prescribed 2 cans per day of science diet S/d.  The first night she ate most of the first can... 2nd day she probably only ate 1 1/2 cans...  3rd day she might have eaten 1/2 of a can... 4th day nothing.  ever since... she has probably only eaten 1/2 a can.

(prior to this prescription food, she was eating 1/2 cup nutro max for sensitive stomachs (with rice and oatmeal) in the morning and in the evening... (sometimes not even that much.)

So, obviously trying to get her to eat 2 thirteen ounce cans is quite a challenge...  She really doesn't show any interest in this food.  Do you have any suggestions for encouraging her to eat this food...

I am hoping to avoid surgery for her if at all possible.  Will the antibiotics and the small amount of the S/D she is eating be sufficient or am I just deluding myself??  :o)

I am looking for any options to help encourage her to eat this food in order to help her heal!

I can tell she is responding to the antibiotics, because she is not 'staining' her fur anymore.  thank you in advance for your suggestions and ideas.

Answer
I would see how things go for the next few days.  It is very difficult to watch a dog go without eating, but sometimes it is the best thing.  It is even possible it needs to lose a little weight and will start eating before long.  See http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx

Stay in touch with your vet.  There may be other brands of the same thing you could try.  When I had to put one of my puppies on science C/D for bladder infections, my vet started with a small bag to see if she would eat it.  She was a Lab, she ate it.  She had inherited the eating style that earned her grandfather the name Hoover.
