uti and foods?

I am spending a fortune on canine Science Diet C/D, and was wondering if there is any non prescription dog food I could feed instead?  I think the c/d is a junk food and would really like to try something new.  Also, if I try another kind of food, would using cranberry powder help with preventing a future uti with struvite crystals?  Thank you very much for your time.

What about trying a home made diet? I would think if the UTI has cleared up and you are not seeing crystals now that a nice moderate premium food such as the Fromm FourStar line would be just fine. Optimally, a home made diet is the way to go. And yes, the cranberry will help prevent recurrence of the infection, but a  good diet is the foundation of all health, not just urinary.
