Dog with diarhea

Question
Recently we switched our dogs to Nutro Natural Choice Dry Dog Food to help the younger one lose weight. Shortly after we switched dog began having diarhea and found a medium size puddle of blood on kitchen floor. We took her to the vet and they said it could be a virus and gave us 2 pills for her and told us to give her chicken and rice. A few days after this, we believe it was our other dog that vomited on the rug. We switched off the dog food to a more natural dog food that is made close to where we live. Dogs seemed to be ok for a few days and yesterday after work I came home to more diarhea all over the rug. I have appointment with vet tomorrow after work but I am really worried about my dogs. I found info on the net about this dog food having too much zinc and now copper also. Could this be the result of eating this food? Could this be cured? Would there be any long term affects? Please help :(

Answer
Hi Sheila,

I apologize for the late reply here, I've been swamped with work lately and unfortunately I have to attend to that before i can get here. have you talked to your vet about this possibility? I'd have liver tests run asap to ascertain if they have any ongoing problems. Which food did you switch to? HOw are they now? I'd like to help more but I'd need to know exactly what's happening before I can make recommendations - about mineral levels, protein and so on.Can you have their liver enzymes tested?
Let me know, I will endeavor to reply more promptly if at all possible, too.
