Question
Hallo, we have two dogs, Parsons Jack Russells. Billie, she is 5 yrs old and Little Jack is 2 yrs old, he was the runt of the litter when we got him and is thriving now. Both have delightful natures, are not snappy but are playful terriers. We love them to distraction. They tend to have a diet of fresh chicken and veg with biscuits, maybe once or twice a week a dry food, sometimes hearts, some lamb, rice and chicken, they have a varied selection, never chocolate or grapes or any of our processed food or any, 'rubbish'.My question is this, my husband has taken to giving them a saucer of milk in the morning which they absolutely love. Now and again, very rare but, a tiny bit of cream. The dogs love this and are never sick. Well Little Jack is but thats only when he eats snails!!!!Is this bad for them, I have a feeling its not good but my husband says its ok. Do you know the answer to this please, thank you for your time, kind regards Sally

Answer
Snails are not a large, well know problem.  I think there are some parasites a dog can pick up from eating them.  I would discuss it with the vet and make sure he does fecal and blood work at least annually.

You might want to consider cutting out some of what you are feeding and more dog food.  Yes, dog are omnivores, but they digest mile and vegetables poorly unless highly process.  Cooking in turn destroys some of the nutrients, so it is had to know how much good they are doing the dog.  Dog food are carefully formulated and tested to ensure they are the complete and balanced diet dogs need.  Many nutritional unbalances don't show up until it is too late.
