Diet for My Dog

Question
My 2 yr old female Rottie mix was recently found to have crystals forming in her urine (calcium, phosphorus & magnesium)& was put on Hills c/d specially formulated kibble.  However, the ingredients are really low quality (corn meal, pork fat, dhicken by-products meal, and the rest are additives I can't pronounce or spell).  I'd been feeding her Nutro Ultra, Natural Balance original, & the Dog Whisperer brands alternately.  How can I meet her requirements for urinary health, but meet her other dietary needs?  Or need I not worry?

Answer
Hi Esther,

Boy do I hear you about the poor quality ingredients in the Hill`s foods. It`s really a shame they do such a great job with formulation and then sue low quality food sources. I would say you are best off with a home made diet, but if that isn`t an option, please discuss the possibility of a diet change with your vet. Without knowing all the details about your dog`s condition and health history, I`m a little uncomfortable advising you to go off a prescription diet. I can formulate a recipe for you, but that`s a professional service and may not be of interest at this time.

If you would like to discuss a consultation, dont hesitate to contact me, I work with urinary conditions all the time.
