my 3 year old cockapoo

Question
QUESTION: How much food (in cups) should a cockapoo about 3 years old eat?

ANSWER: That is a question that requires several questions before anyone can answer you accurately because when it comes to feeding one size does NOT fit all.

*what does your vet say about her weight?

*What does the dog food package say? Be careful here, THEY TEND TO TELL YOU TOO MUCH FOOD--after all they want to sell more.

*Are you concerned because your dog's weight is fluctuating?

*how much exercise is your dog getting?

*Can you feel her ribs without digging?

*Looking down on her does she have a slight hour glass shape? If so then this is good.

Only you can make food adjustments so pay attention to the above. I cannot tell you, EXACTLY what to feed your cockapoo because I don't kow the dog.

I would need to have more info..like her current weight, activity levels etc. Wouldneed to know wha you are currently feeding her, if you are giving snacks, if you are sticking to one diet etc.

Sorry I cannot be more specific but hope this helped. Sue

QUESTION: I know my dog is over weight. So yes I am concerned because my dog's weight is fluctuating. I have to dig to feel her ribs, and she does not have an hour glass shape. I thought maybe we were feeding her too much, so I wanted to know how much a full grown cockapoo should eat, hoping that would fix the problem.

Answer
Hello again,
I think you have solved your own problem. There is no set amount to feed any dog, no matter what the package says. And if everyone followed what was on the dog food package, ALL DOGS WOULD BE OVERWEIGHT. You have to adjust DOWN for your cockapoo until you reach a point where she is losing and then when she gets to her right weight, stabizes. CUT OUT ALL TREATS IFYOU ARE GIVING THEM. FEED HER TWICE, EVEN THREE TIMES A DAY in amts that add up to one meal. Walk her or exercise her more and she will start to lose. Sue
