Low purine food

Question
Hello, my 2 1/2 year old English Bulldog had Cystine stones removed from his bladder.

Our Vet has recommended that he go on a Veterinarian Diet - Royal Canin Urinary UC - they said he has to be on it for the rest of his life (is that true?)

I am not too trilled with some of the ingredients listed on the package like corn gluten meal, dried egg product.

Is my dog really doomed to be on this diet or can I use a different diet such as Flint river Wet/Dry with its ph at 6.8. or can you recommend another nutritiously balanced low purine food or raw diet.

Also can I give him fruits (non-acidic) as a snack whilst he is on the Veterinary Diet?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello Ada,

No, your dog is not doomed.  There are some really good dog foods on the market however I am not familiar with foods in your country.  Can you get Flint River in Germany?  If so yes that is what I would try.  I sell it at my website. Fruits like apples are OK, but vegetables like carrots and green beans are good as well.
