Stiffer Stool

Question
I have a pug that is 4 years old and about 20 lbs. My pug seems to be having problems expressing his anal glands during pooping. He occasionally leaks while lying on the couch, and sometimes after he comes in from going to the bathroom, liquid begins to come out several minutes later. I took him to a groomer recently and when he attempted to express the glands nothing was there. He did mention that if my pug had stiffer stool that it would help the glands express themselves naturally. I feed my dog just dry dog food (Dog Chow) and he has solid stool; is there some dietary change that will result in stiffer stool?

Answer
Hi TESS-   Yes, let's make some changes with this little Pug...
I love pugs.....!!!!

First - Can you buy some Kellogs " All BRAN" cereal - give your pug about 1/4 a cup of this mixed with his / her dry food.

Also, lets get some canned dog food - ONLY good brands that are holistic and grain free - (98 or 99% meat) - Innova, Wellness, Eagle Pack, Solid Gold....are all good Holistic canned/and dry dog foods.
Give 3 teaspoons of canned food on top of the dry food - 1-2 x per day.

And last, a good supplement for you pugs diet - Many pug breeders love this product : NuVET Plus - Great Doggie Supplement/vitamin-
Good taste too...WAFER treat.

only about .55 cents per day...

I hope all this has helped.  Your baby should not have any problems with better foods and " ALL BRAN " cereal added to the diet you have been using.

BEST wishes on this;

I hope this has helped
