Liver Diet food

Question
My Yorkie was diagnosed with liver shunt and put on Science Diet l/d. He hates it. I have added chicken flavored electrolyte to no avail. Are there more choices of dog food in canned and dry for this type of diet or what can I put in it to make it more palatable? Thank you for your response.

Answer
I don't get in to the medical areas.  Talk to your vet about alternatives.  I know Purina now has prescription diets too.  Perhaps he would like theirs better.

If a dog is over weight it may not eat as well.  Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. If it wouldn't hurt your dog to lose a little, put his food down, and take up the uneaten food after 15 minutes.  Missing a meal or 2 doesn't hurt, and often they start eating better in a few days.

The chicken may be as good as anything to add.  With a liver problem, I think you want to be careful of anything very fatty.  You might try a little canned food.  Take a half teaspoon full and stir it in well so each piece of kibble has a little on it.
