Dog on Hills u/d craves sticks, bark, acorns, etc

Question
My 11 yr old, 90 lb Ridgeback had surgery for bladder stones last May and since then has been on Hill's u/d.  He tolerates it fine however he seems obsessed with eating every acorn, stick, piece of bark, etc. that he can find on walks.  He never did this before.  Could he be missing some nutrient that he used to get with regular dog food, and if so is there some kind of supplement I can give him to ease this?  It's getting very tedious to deal with.  thank you!

Hi Susan , Yes YOU are correct, Long term the Hills u/d doesn't cut it ... Just not enough nutrition in that food.  The ingredients in u/d Hill's are average:
ADD a little help from Natural Balance:
How about adding some Natural Balance dog food -  Lamb and rice formula to your Hill's RX do good:
do about a 50/50 mix of the 2 foods - long term.

Also, Please start this doggie kid onto the NuVET Wafer supplement:  Just 1 1/2 per day long term.  NuVET is an overall Vitamin but it will help to Utilize and absorb the nutrients out of the 2 foods.
SEE here: NuVET is Holistic / VERY Natural and SAFE.
GREAT for Bladder stone clients!  I have 100s of bladder DX clients on NuVET daily:
