Question
Hey I took my 11 year old cat to the vet she has a severe respiratory infection, they gave her an injection antibiotic and she is on liquid antibiotics. I have to force feed her because she will not eat because she is so congested. She has a vaporizer and I am mixing A/D canned food with pedialyte. My question is she has sores on her nose and mouth which I read is a side effect, is there any way to treat these or make them less painful. Also is it normal for them to hardly go to the bathroom. The first couple days she had bowel movements and peed like crazy now I do not see much.

Answer
Oh Jennifer, So sorry for you two!  The sores are many times viral and related to the infection and not the antibiotic.
The stool problem can be related to the poor fluid intake and medications.
You may want to call your vet for a follow-up visit.
The Vet can also order some Albuterol inhaler treatments to do at home.  You can rent the machine or buy it for about 120.00.
It's the same machine you would use for a human getting asthma treatments.
You don't use a mask, just do a "blow-by" with the Tube and Pipe - in front of the cat's mouth for about 5 mintues 3 x per day - Helps to keep your baby from getting pneumonia.  Breaks up all the Junk.
Ask your vet what you can give for pain and to reduce the inflammation?  They may want to give you a steroid just for short-term usage to reduce the pain and inflammation.

(Supplements)
Here are some things that may help:

I have 2 supplements I would like you to try -
** the NuVET feline powder - it is easy to hide in some wet cat food or even some cottage cheese.

The other is ALJ liquid / see here:

Next, Add this liquid to the drinking wafer each day - or place into the wet food of each cat - this helps with allergies and respiratory problems.  ... good for all the cats in the house and dogs, too...
Good for all the humans in your family with allergies or congestion.

Nature's Sunshine:  AlJ liquid herb - give them the "children" dosage
( You can get Nature's Sunsine at your local Health store or on-line)

http://www.healthywarehouse.com/allergy-immune/allergies/alj-liquid.asp

Next, I would love to see them on NuVET Feline Formula - it will cost you about .30 cents per day per cat -  UNDER 10 lbs is only 1/2 dosage per day - small powder you mix into the wet food 1 x per day.   (* over 10 lbs 1 full teaspoon per day)

EXCELLENT to re-build the immune system and fight off allergies.  ***

AFTER just 2-3 weeks of the ALJ and the NuVET - you will see results -
CALL around because the ALJ is sold in many Health Stores that carry Human vitamins - ask them if they carry Natures Sunshine products.

The NuVET must be ordered - Not sold in any stores/ thru Holistic vets

I hope this helps -  Keep me posted
