Question

Megs Portrait
I have a 12 year old Boston Terrier named Megan, She was diagnosed with Cushings disease in April of 2007, than several months later she became diabetic.  She is being treated with the drug from England Trilostane and takes insulin bid, 8AM AND 8PM, Her blood surgars were up and down for some time, she than got diabetic cateracts, and has recently gone blind. all of this sounds bad however she is responding well to the Trilostane and her lab work has gotten better and better, she is playful, gets around well, and is very upbeat, has a good appetite and looks much younger than 12. I am feeding her one half of cup of Solid Gold kibble(Barking at the Moon) high in protein, mixed with canned Salmon (Wellness)in the morning, at noon she gets a small amount of greeen beans mixed with small amount of cottage cheese or chicken or maybe baby food meats than at dinner she get a samll amount of Brown rice, piece of broiled chicken and either green beans or broccoli, sometimes she gets a spoonful of pumpkin..I keep it pretty much the same every day, she gets a vitimen from Springtime inc, a holistic Company, and she gets half of tablet of spiralina, I cant give her the joint health due to the samll amount of sugar they have in it but they said the vitimen I am giving her has some joint additives, they are called Fresh factors..her coat looks good, and she has gain weight, and looks much better, for awhile she had lost a lot of weight..she does get two small treats, all natural made from Bark bars...I dont know if this is a good diet for her or not, at times I will give her small amount of oatmeat, or and egg, or yogurt, fruit sometimes makes her BS go up...any suggestions would be appreciated...she gets a stim test every three months...

Answer
Meg is beautiful and very lucky to have you.  I don't have any suggestions for you as all looks wonderful and balanced.  You have made some great choices in foods and treats.
As far as loosing her sight, yes many dogs adjust well to this loss.  Glad to see your girl is happy and full of energy.

If you want to talk with me off line- you may contact me at mtnmom@gci.net.
I can talk with you about the NuVET supplements.
The Springtime company is a product I have not used.  I have heard positive things about this company and the products.

good luck kids!
