Question
Is it bad for a dog to eat too much lunch meat? If so what are some ways lunch meat can affect a dog?

Answer
Hi Lydia,

Just like for us, too much of anything is not usually a good thing!

Lunch meats and other processed products such as hot dogs, sausage, bacon and ham, contain a lot of sodium, fats, preservatives and nitrites.  None of which are ordinarily deadly in small amounts but can cause stomach upset, diarrhea and even pancreatitis in some dogs.  Best to give them REAL meat that you have prepared yourself- such as chicken breasts cooked without sauce or salt as a treat.
