#  2  lbs   carrots
# 2 lbs potatoes
# 1/2 bunch celery (can sub zucchini when it's plentiful)
# 3 lbs of beef (hamburger, mince, chuck or the like)
# drippings, from any roast you have made in the last week or 1/4 cup soy sauce
# 3 -4 chicken stock cubes
# 3 1/2-4 quarts water
# 1 lb of dried pearl barley

Answer
Hello Anna,,
Basically I like most of the ingredients but the drippings and soy sauce. Too fatty. Also if you are going to cook for your dog, you MUST USE ORGANIC VEGGIES otherwise you are giving him all the pesticides they spray on them..and washing them off does little good. Also, why such high fat meat? Your pooch does not need ALL of those ingredients either And yes, you must supplement once you begin to home cook (and good for you for being to do this--I do it for my three). You also do not need to use the chicken stock. Were you planning on using all of these ingredients? Truly, there are too many. You must be very careful of the meats you use because if they are not organic or close to it then you are feeding your dog everything the cow was fed and some cows are fed antibiotics, hormones, steroids. You do not want to give your dog any cheap meats..ever. And by the way, ALL commercial foods are synthetic and ARE NOT REAL FOOD. DID YOU know that? EVen the really so called "high end" foods are pretty much like feeding your dog twinkies.

I am going to give you the email address of my mentor and master of dog diets and supplements. You will never look back. She DOES NOT CHARGE BECAUSE SHE ADORES DOGS and is brilliant when it comes to recipes and supplementing so your dog gets really GREAT AND REAL FOOD. And you certainly will not need all of those ingredients. She will map out a plan for you and you will be delighted--as will you dog. I credit Donia (that is her name, it's not a typo) with saving my little Yorkies digestive life..and with educating me on how to home cook, supplement, keep things in balance and how and what to shop for. I would really like for you to contact her because I KNOW you will love her. Tell her exactly what you told me; IN FACT, SEND HER THE EXACT LETTER YOU SENT ME INCLUDING ALL OF THE ITEMS ON YOUR LIST. SHE WILL help you as long as you need help. Give her my name as a reference (Sue Behlmar) and you will be more on your way that i could ever send you, ok?

Here's her email address: DoniaSea@aol.com an be sure to tell her that Sue Behlmar sent you. Please get back to me and let me know how things are going.

Also, I am REALLY SORRY that it took me so long to respond. I've been down with pneumonia and pleurisy and today is the first time I have used the computer in a week.
Nite, Susan
