Question
hello, I have a 1.5 yr old lab. mainly an outdoor dog during summer. he is housebroke but it seems like whenever i lock him up in his own room he always gets diarrhea. he never goes pee or poop in the house unless he really cant hold it anymore (we all know the feeling of diarrhea). I only lock him in his room every now and again and it happends almost every time. now its starting to get cold outside so i really need to bring him in at night. he has been on the same food for about a year now (dog chow, seemed like the only food that didnt give him diarrhea).  Any idea what it might be? any suggestions on what i should do?  thanks
Kraigg

Answer
I am sure it is stress.  I don't have much for that in my bag of tricks.  You could try a Kong filled with peanut butter.  Freezing it makes it last even longer.  Give him a good walk to tire him out and stimulate him to eliminate.  Then give it to him when you shut him up.  He could be too busy licking the peanut butter out to worry about being shut up.

If that doesn't do it, you may need medication from the vet.
