Overweight Boston Terrier

Question
Our 5 yr old, spayed Boston Terrier is overweight. She weighs 26.6 lbs. We have been feeding her Ole Roy Complete Nutrition dog food for several years. This brand was recommended by our vet due to her vomiting problem with her previous food. She is 22 inches long and 12 inches tall at the front shoulder. We fell she should weigh around 20 lbs. We have started walking her daily. How much dog food should we be feeding her per day?

Answer
Nobody can say.  You need to cut back to where she is slowly losing weight, and then increase it once she reaches ideal body condition,  Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. Many of those dispensing dog advice on the net would be aghast at feeding Old Roy.  I know little of it and doubt the others do either.  After all, they condemn Purina, Pro plan, Iams, and other foods I do know have a very successful record.  If it seems to be working, continue it, just a little less of it.

Note, at least one of the other experts here has a website where you can buy all the stuff she recommends.  I bought a 30 pound bag of Iams at Wal-Mart today.
