Question
I switched my dog (pappillon) from eukanuba to Halo's spots stew. My dog ate fine but I wanted to make sure what he was eating was also good for him that's why I made the change it was not medically necessary. He used to take all day (8hours) to eat the dish (1/2c) of eukanuba. When I first switched him it still took him all day. A few monthes ago he suddenly started eathing the entire meal when I set it down. I switched to a 1/4c in the morning and a 1/4c at night. He seems like he's starving. He should be between 9 and 11lbs and he is at 9.9 right now. I know he gets enough food but is there something I can feed him that is still natural and healthy that will make him feel fuller?

Answer
Hi Kristen,

I was sure I answered this, I must be getting confused here. First, the Spot's Stew is a lot more palatable then the Eukanuba - it's a much higher quality food. So naturally your dog will want to eat more of it.  You can add a little more food, since his weight is good, but also try some lower calorie snacks (baby carrots, cooked green beans, egg white, a half a sardine).  The higher quality ingredients in the Spot's Stew mean our dog can digest them easily and the transit time through him is shorter. I'd suggest some low calories snacks mid day to help him feel fuller. Dehydrated sweet potatoes are safe and fun for them and take a while to chew up.Dried tripe sticks and salmon skin can keep the occuppied too(but they smell very strong!) But don't go back to the Euk - this really is a huge improvement.

All the best, Catherine
