Question
I recently brought home a 16 month old siberian husky...the gentleman I got her from had her on The Goodlife Recipe and told me that she loves it! Well she wont eat it. I tried a canned food  I believe is Natures Recipe but she doesnt seem to like that either(she did eat 1/4 cup but that was it)  and I dont know what kind of food is best for her.
I have heard about the raw diet but it seems to expensive for me...and she seems to only like canned food.

I also have a 10 month old st bernard/shepard/golden retriever mix and currntly have him on purina one large breed puppy....but I started hearing bad things about purina what so you recommend for him?

Answer
The first thing I would do if I were you is to try to understand dog food ingredients better. Instead of paraphrasing, I'll give you a link to an article that I co-wrote. You can find it here (http://www.heartypet.com/blog/?p=63) at the Hearty Pet website. It explains what to look for in a dog food, and what to avoid. From that, I'll think you'll be able to see that Purina ONE is definitely not the best food for your dog (but he could be eating much worse).

For your Husky, I would try to find a quality fish food. Many of the Huskies I know do much better eating a diet made up of fish. Wellness, Orijen, Taste of the Wild, and Fromm all have great fish formulas. I also know many Huskies like grain free foods better, because they are more meaty and have a stronger taste. Try going to their websites and contacting the companies about samples, that way you can try out the food with her first, to see if she's interested. All of the foods recommended in the article are great. it's more of a matter of finding one that she enjoys. If you need to coax her to eat, try adding plain yogurt, cottage cheese, or sodium-free broth to the dry to make it more enticing.

For your puppy, I would get him onto a quality All Life Stages food. He's going to be a big dog, and therefore has special dietary needs. Eagle Pack Holistic large breed formula, Canidae, Solid Gold, Wellness, Nature's Variety, or Innova would be great for him. Avoid any grain free foods until he is done growing, because those encourage a high growth rate.

If you have more questions, or didn't understand something I wrote, please reply and I'll do my best to clarify. Good luck!
