Question
I recently adopted an 8 year old mixed breed dog who had been left on the humane society's door step, probably cocker spaniel and miniature poodle.  However, she has very short legs so neither the vet nor I are positive what she is.  Because of her being dumped, there is no history.  However, she had an old microchip and the company is still in business. They gave me an exact birth date, but they only give out the first name of the whomever registered the dog.   She is missing upper teeth--the vet thought that the most likely scenario was that someone kicked her.  She was very matted with bacterial and yeast infections in the skin folds.  She probably had kennel cough when I got her.

Her urine was absolutely loaded with bacteria.  Type is not known.  She has been on antibiotics for 5 days and seems more comfortable.  However, she is still urinating frequently and had an accident in the house today.  She squirms a lot and tries to rub her lower belly and back frequently.    Her chemistries were normal except for a slight elevation of her Lipase, lots of bacteria and white blood cells in her urine, a urine pH of 8.0, and a slightly elevated MCHC of 36.5.  T4 was low normal at 1.4.

Could you recommend a grain-free recipe for making acidifying dog food?

Thank you,
Frances

Answer
So Jo's Easy to make dog food:  a dry mix and you add the lightly cooked meats.

Oh Wow.... She is lucky to have you:
You can go with SoJo's Green bag of grain free / YOU add your own lightly cooked meats.
SoJo can be found at many pets stores and here:

This is the way to go for your baby!!!

Also, MOST of my clients take Cranberry --- Go to GNC or other vitamin store and get some Cranberry supplements.  Give her 1 per day long term.
VERY safe...
