Question
Hi we are getting an 8 week old mini golden doodle puppy.  The breeder has been feeding him with Eukaneba but we have been getting better reviews on EVO.  Can you tell us which one is better?  Thank you, lv NYC

Answer
Hello there,
I don't know if this response will truly help or confuse you BUT I gave up on ALL commercial dog foods  years ago. I don't what kinds of research you have truly done into what goes into ALL of the foods, no matter how high end, but I have or did and now I home cook. I homecook and work with a nutritionist and my dogs are finally thriving. The problem I had and have with commercially sold dog foods is that you never, ever know how the animals were fed before they were killed for the dog food, there are FAR TOO MANY INGREDIENTS IN ALL DOG FOODS and I am convinced that the multitude of ingredients (most of them synthetic, meaning they were created in a a lab somewhere)in ALL commercial dog foods lead to some of the problems that people begin to have as the dog approaches adulthood or before(digestion issues, allergies bigtime and any number of other maladies. I have had at lease 15 brands analyzed by my nutritionist and not one passes muster as far as ingredients and preservatives--NO MATTER WHAT THE ADVERTISING SAYS TO ENTICE WE HUMANS. If I were starting over with my three dogs as pups I would homecook, supplement and work with a nutritionist FROM THE BEGINNING but I did not have that option. Two years ago, I started doing this and my dogs are now thriving and not suffering from the illnesses that were harming them and making me nuts.

Since you mentioned nothing but those two commercial dog foods, I will answer you directly and say that EVO has a better reputation--whatever that means. Eukanuba is pretty much like giving your dog twinkies, but then most of the dog foods are like this. You will have to continue doing what the breeder is doing or you risk upsetting your new baby's tummy but down the road switch her over slowly and then PLEASE CONSIDER A REAL FOOD DIET AND NOT A SYNTHETIC ONE LIKE EVEN EVO IS. If and when you ever want more info, feel free to write and and ask. I can send you some articles such as, "Do you really know what you are feediing your dog?" etc. Even though you didn't ask, I will also caution you about vaccinations...do YOUR RESEARCH AND LEARN ABOUT TITERING. Google, "titering your dog" or something similar and get your eyes opened about vaccines.

Since you are starting out new, I wanted to give you something HEALTHY to think about so your pup gets started out right and with the best chances for a long, healthy life. I can refer to the gal (she does not charge because she adores animals and kids and her two Yorkies lived to be 19)that was a godsend to me if you like. At any rate, good luck. I gave you more info than  you wanted but when I hear that someone is getting a new pup it kills me to think that they will go directly to the commercial food counter and might not educate themselves about REAL FOOD AND REAL FOOD SUPPLEMENTS and did I mention vaccines and what they do to our dogs?

I wish you the best. So, I guess you will decide on EVO and I wish you luck and lots of love with your new pup. Write again if you like, Susan
