hello (could it be mange)?; probiotic treatment for mastiff;

Question
I have an old english mastiff, he was given to us by a friend we've had him for a month hes been a great dog he's around 2 years old maybe older, but hes got a couple of open wounds on each side of his face more in the area of the fat rolls were they over lap and hes loosing his fur, we were woundering if it was fleas thats doing it, the biggest one is about the size of a quarter, is completely open and raw the other one was a little matted so we stared pulling the hair back we thought we found a flea but when we went to pull it out there was a glob of fur and wasnt flea. Hopefully you can help us we have no money to go to the vet right at this time, but if you cant help if you know anyone the can, he's very important member of our familly i would apretiate it.

Hi Mark  - Ok here are a few low cost things to try .  It may be just and over growth of Yeast - Hard for me to say for sure!

1.  go to Walmart ( the vitamin section) and get some 1 Billion CFUs of Acidaplolis - this is a Probiotic.  Give 2 per day for the first 10 days and then 1 per day for 60 days.  ( this is low cost and safe)

2.  Call NuVET - ask them for a 60 count bottle of the NuVET Wafers - give 1 wafer per day for long term - Skin and coat  healer...
MOST dogs his size would need 1 1/2 NuVET wafers per day... I know you said money is LOW so how about just 1 per day.
