Question
QUESTION: Hi Marie: I've talked to you in the past about my dog Tex who is 5yrs old. He had bad skin conditions/allergies from his food. Changed his food to Wellness core.  Anyway, more bad news... I was just petting him and I found a large lump around his back ankle joint. I'm so worried. Any ideas of what it could be? Its 8:30pm and my vet is closed. I will try to call in the morning, but I'm very upset. Needed someone to talk to.

ANSWER: Hi Brenda,  I understand your concern when we find any kind of lump.  You mentioned it on the lower leg in the posterior section of the leg.  Sounds like it could just be from overexertion of the joints.  The area may be filled with excess fluids which can be common.

Have your vet take a look.  The area may go away in a few days with low activity.  Again, they can get lumps and bumps and it can be normal.

Let me know what the vet says????

QUESTION: They couldn't see him today. They are only open 8-11am on Saturday, but he has a 2:15pm on Monday. I'm just nervous and would have rather gotten him in today.   It seems like this tumor/cyst runs thru his joint and intertwines around it. Doesn't seem good.

Answer
Don't worry !  Monday will be fine.  Still sounds like fluids.  You know, fluids can get very hard over a short period of time.
He is a little young for Cancer.  So, stop the Tumor talk .... just wait and see.......
I know you are a worried mom!
