Question
I am frustrated with feed my 10 month old Chi/Pug puppy.  I am probably to blame because I have given her people food ie:Cooked chicken breast, ground beef, cottage cheese, eggs, etc. I have tried several dry foods , Nutro Ultra, EaglePack, SolidGold, Canidae and Iams. she will eat one bowl like she loves it then turn her nose up the next time.  She has gone 36hrs without eating. I limit her treats to holistic types and the amount is limited. Am I being too stressed and should just give her what I want to buy and eventually she will eat, or does she have a right to be picky.

Answer
Hi Cnidy,

It's certainly true that small dogs can be  finicky, and also that offering real food (I never think in terms of 'people' food -   more like processed or whole) can bias your dog to a preference, but that's  understandable. It sounds to me like your little girl might do best on a home made diet - have you thought about preparing her food yourself?

Aside from a home made diet, my feeling is your best bet is to keep rotating brands, incorporate some canned food as a topper, try ading a little tripe to make food more enticing,  limit in between meal treats so she's more hungry come dinnertime.

All the best,
Catherine
