Question
i have a goldendoodle born november 21 2008...i am feeding him KIRKLAND signature adult dog food on my daughters advice...she read that larger breeds can be fed adult dog food as it is beneficial to their growth...what do you think?  thank you in advance...paulette

Answer
Good afternoon.

Many of the premium adult dog foods are adequate for larger breed puppies, but not all.  Unfortunately, I do not have all of the technical information on Kirkland Signature Adult Food to solidly state whether it is appropriate or not.

One of the important factors when considering if a food is appropriate for a growing larger breed puppy is the calcium content in relation to the overall calories consumed.  You'll want to make sure the food you are providing contains between 2,000 and 3,000 mg of calcium per 1,000 calories of food.  With that, you want to make sure there is a proper calcium to phosphorus ratio, which this food does have.  If you have the complete analysis on the food, including the calories per KG, we can then calculate the amounts of calcium, etc. in the food to  make sure it is appropriate.
