QuestionMy female Yorkie has been successfully treated for stuvite stones with antibiotic for infection, and canned Science Diet/SDand follow up sustained feeding of CD. Recently she was tested and was shown to have a very high cholesterol. The vet put her on WD. It has (I think) too much fiber for her. My question is: Can I home prepare a good quality food that will keep her healthy and free of bladder stones? I am retired and have the time to do it?
AnswerHi Jeane,
Yes indeed you can home prepare her food, but it is imperative you do so under the guidance of a professional in this case. For sensitive, small dogs with health conditions you must have the diet formulated for you. I work with canine urolith diets all the time, and would be happy to discuss this with you in more detail of you wish. My website is www.thepossiblecanine.com, or you can email me directly at catlane@thepossiblecanine.com - if you have the time to prepare the food and have someone knowledgeable guiding you as to correct foods, amounts and supplementation, it will be extremely beneficial to your dog.
All the best, I would be happy to speak with you more about this.
