BARF diet

Question
I have a 3 year old Doberman who has horrible gas (he can clear out an entire room), diarrhea, he doesn't seem to gain much weight and he has dandruff. He has been in for check ups at the vet (especially since the contaminated food scare) and the vet suggested that we feed him Purina ONE with a little olive oil in it (for his skin). We tried this, it helped his coat but not his gas, etc. We have switched between numerous "premium" dry dog foods to no avail. Yesterday, while out for a walk we ran into a fellow Doberman pinscher owner who suggested we look into the BARF diet (her dog looks gorgeous and is in great health). I've been looking online but am unsure of how to start. Are there certain recipes to abide by? Do you think this might be a beneficial diet for my dog?

Answer
Purina, I'm sorry to say is death in a bag. I do think BARF would be a great diet for your dog but you need to do lots of research and go into it slowly. Meanwhile, feed your dog a premium food such as wellness, canidae, natural balance, eagle pack, or Flint River, no corn, no wheat, no soy, no by products.
http://www.njboxers.com/faqs.htm Here's a website that should help answer most if not all of your questions on BARF. And you also need to put your boy on supplements, flax seed oil, vitamin E, C, and omegas. Selenium and biotin are also necessary for good coat and skin.
You will see a HUGE difference in your dog in all areas and he'll livelonger.
good luck
