my miniature daschund

Question
I hope you can help - I am not sure how many grams of food I should be feeding Jimmy my minature daschund.  He weighs 12lbs and is a larger minature (in terms of  height / length)  I feed him fresh mince and he has an equal amount of Lambs dry dog food for small adult dogs.  Can you tell me how many grams of each (I think I give him 60grams of each per day) I should give him as I know it is important he doesn't gain weight.  All best wishes Elizabeth

Answer
Good afternoon, Elizabeth.

Unfortunately, it wouldn't be possible to tell you how many grams to feed.  What you would need to do is determine your dog's caloric requirements, then feed each, the dry food and the mince meat, based upon the calories in each.  Different dog foods, as well as different mince meats, will have different caloric densities.

Most dry foods will provide the amount of calories in certain measured amounts.  You would need to find that, then find out the calories in measured amounts of the mince meat.  From there, you will be able to determine proper amounts to feed him.

I hope this has been helpful.
