Question
what can i feed the puppy on?.the breeder said she was brought up on winalot,it seems to make her stools runny, should i buy puppy winalot or normal?

Answer
Hi Michelle
The fact that the first ingredient in Winalot rice and veggies is cereal is a cause for concern. 20 percent cereal in a dog food is a lot. Try to find a food in which meat is the main ingredient. Don't be fooled by lables that list meat first and then have rice in four different varieties or corn in two different varieties etc. Those things added together will equal more than the meat. You want to stay away from corn. wheat, soy, meat byproducts or derivatives, you want your food preserved with tocopherols, (vitamine E) or other natural preservatives. If your pup has runny poo you would do well to add some plain yogurt to her food , or even to cut out commercial foods period while you are searching for the appropriate one. Make her some boneless skinless chicken mixed with brown rice cooked in unsalted chicken broth. Add some fresh raw carrots for her to chew on and chop some green veggies such as green beans into her food. Add 1000 mgs of vitamin C broken into three daily doses along with vitamin E twice per day and/or a nice fish oil such as cod liver oil, a couple of tablespoons twice per day. Cooked fish is wonderful for dogs provided it is baked or broiled and boneless. So are cooked eggs. Once you settle on a dog food mix in what you have been feeding her and slowly over time decrease what she's been eating while increasing her new food. Make sure that she is worm free as worms can also cause runny poo. so can coccidia which is a bacterial infection needing antibiotics. A vet check is definitely in order.
Good luck and happy hunting for a new food! Enjoy that little bright bundle of fur!
