Question
Greetings! I am considering purchasing a standard poodle as a family pet. My family includes myself and two teenagers who have much experience as dog-owners. All that I have found describes standards as very solid, gentle dogs. The problem is my fiance beleives that they are biters. Do you have experiencve with Standards. Are they prone to biting or niping?

Answer
Hi!
I have actually had a good deal of experience with standard poodles and i highly recommend them as family pets.  I have never found them to be prone to biting or niping and have always found them to be extremely level headed and very smart.  I have seen "fear biters" that were standard poodles but that was due to severe neglect and NO socialization.  This is common in all breeds when not properly cared for who recieve no human contact or love.  I'm glad your seriously looking at standards, I'm sure your life will be gretly enhanced by the addition.  Find a quality breeder, make sure they have completed the proper health screening on the parent dogs (dont just take there word for it - check up on them) and pick a puppy that is friendly and out going.  Good luck and let us know when you find your perfect puppy.

Regards,
Brandie
