9 yeat old male maltese

Question
How do i address my maltese agressive behavior.  Recently he has begun agressively growling and snipping at myself and/or husband when we try to move him out of the way or off of our laps.  Very odd and a little scarry when you see his teeth, yet very mellow the rest of the time.
