Question

Halloween Doggie
My 2 1/2 yr old purebred maltese Ricky(5 lbs.) has periods of breathing 180/min when he's sleeping or resting. It lasts ab. 5 min. and then eventually passes.I noticed this in the last month. The Vet did x-rays and only saw some poop slightly backed up;told me to just feed 2x/day(I used to just leave it down all the time). I feed him Innova Evo small bites(began Angels Eyes 1/4 tsp./day 1 mo. ago), and also give him tiny pieces of dogswell dried chick. breast or Ziwi Peak Jerky treats for training or treats. No supplements. Thank you for any help.

Answer
Judi- I love him!!!  Ricky is so cute!!!  Thanks for the photo, I will use it on All Experts when I answser questions...
I believe his breathing sounds normal and he could be having a little puppy dream.  When they enter a very deep sleep they can have a dream cycle and rapid breathing can occur.

Sounds like you are doing a good job... Feeding a wonderful food.  The Angel eyes is ok but it has Antibiotic in it.... So, I don't give it to my clients.

If you can get some Diamond Eye cleaner and use 2x a day with a cotton ball.  Also, NuVET Plus helps to reduce the acids in the tear stains and the Yeast bacterias... Here is the link for NuVET - not sold in stores: buy thru the manufacturer and SAVE over the VET fees.
NuVET wafers / He will only need 1/2 per day - If he is under 10 lbs... Or a full one if he is over 10 lbs.
You can break it up and mix into his food or give as a treat.

Also, I use this for the stains - it protects the area from future stains ...Makes the eyes look so much better:

You can find this at most pet stores...

Note Added -
I have never used that store...Just wanted to show you what the bottle looked like.. Figured you could get it at the local pet shop.
NuVET products are safe to buy on-line -
or you can call them...
