Question
QUESTION: hi luci, since april my 8 year old maltese started to shake occasionally. he was seen by my vet who named it anxiety. we then ruled that out. he was treated for an intestional infection and was on multiple antibiotics.he has had his stool tested 2 times for parasites and the result was neg. he has also been tested for tick diseases, result neg. we cant recall, but also in april he fell off my bed at night. he never walked funny or limped. my vet doesnt think an exray will show much. now hes on prendizone. his energy is low. im at a loss. it was told to me that the prendizone which is an anti inflamitory may help if there is a back issue. he has not really been shaking but hes not himself. i appreciate any thoughts as to what i could do next. thank you gina

ANSWER: i know i relate  to some questioners problems but it is so wierd that you should mention this as my maltese does this but does not seem as serious as yours. please see if you can relate.
It first started when we took him on holiday to a holiday park after we took him out he would start shaking i was really worried as it seemed to be his back end that was shaking and we were in the middle of nowhere so we phoned the vets the vet suggested keep an eye as it could be an allergic reaction it happened every day after he had been out in the end we assumed he was allergic to DUCKS lol as we wo there near a lake. So we said we would watch him when we got home, anyway it didnt happen again for a while until i was frying some bacon he comes to my feet and was shaking he likes to be picked up when this happens. Then me and my partner remembered that we were also frying on holiday. Anyway sorry to beat around the bush but it seems to be as you mention anxiety when hearing loud noises or sometimes he does it for no reason.
when we were on holiday it appeared that he was in pain but when it stopped he seemed fine.
we have come the conclusion that it is noises that makes him scared, does your dog show any signs of pain.
What you think is what counts and i cannot advise any reputable advice as a vet would give, but if your dog is not taking to the medicine well and you do not feel it is making any difference then maybe you should consider other options.
More detailed information would help such as how often this happens how long for how your dog is after any signs of pain and what seems to trigger this problem.
Kind regards ps dont worry i know its hard when you dont know that the cause is.

QUESTION: hi lusi, thank you for the info. it was helpful and helpful to also be able to talk to you since your dog has acted similar. my dog does seem to be in some discomfort though. my vet thinks its skelital, especially because we ruled so many other things out. is it too much of a risk to exray him? he would have to be put out. he is also a lot less energetic. maybe its all the medication. thanks gina

Answer
Its hard to see your dog in pain or not acting themselves exactly a year ago now my dog was suffering from parvovirus and we thought he was going to die despite vet intervention, i would have done anything however my breeder who was great suggested methods she had used involving homeopathic remedies anyway my dog recovered and i dont put it down to that however i do believe that i contributed to his recovery, may i suggest you look into this
http://www.homoeopet.co.uk/index2.htm
above is one site however there are numerous , and i would suggest emailing them to explain your problem and to see if there is any possible soloutions,
this may help and they are natural remedies which are unlikley to harm your dog nor aggravate the condition.
Good luck
i really do hope you resolve this matter as it is an ongoing strain not knowing the cause of an animals pain i am sorry to hear you are going through this but dont give up on your little boy as love is the main thing he needs from you.
kind regards
