Raising 2 Lab Pups 7 mos apart

Question
We bought a black lab (Lucky) for my son. Lucky is now 7 months old. We love having Lucky so much that we decided to buy a brown lab that will be ready to come home in June. They will have the same parents (same breeder).
I wanted to know if there are any do's and don'ts' for raising puppies so close in age. And will they get along better because they are from the same parents?
Thanks

Answer
A couple of things.  No, the puppies will have no clue that they are siblings.  Make sure your current puppy is as well trained as possible for his age right now, because dogs learn from one another and if he has any bad habits, those will pass to the puppy more quickly than the good habits!  Also, be prepared that your 7 month old will regress and act like he's had no training as you work with the new puppy.  Be prepared to spend double the amount of training with the dogs as you will need to spend considerable time with each one individually so that they bond to the humans and not each other.

Also, just for future reference, reputable breeders usually don't do back to back breedings with the same parents unless they have a very good reason.  Hopefully these folks had that good reason and have been doing all the clearances etc.  Another point, many breeders will not sell you a second puppy so soon after just getting one.  Raising two is very difficult, especially when you have children to take care of as well, and most reputable breeders will ask about that and suggest you wait at least 1 1/2 - 2 years before you introduce a second dog to the home.

Please send some time on google looking up "Raising Litter mates"...while what you are doing is slightly different as there is 7 months between, alot of it will be the same.  Good luck.
