Question
My dog is 3 years old and a black lab. She lives with my parents on a farm sence i moved 45 minutes away to college. She is an outside dog but is brought inside for maybe 4 or 5 hours a week to relax and lay on the sofa( she has never peed or pooped on our carpets or in her kennal). My question is that in iowa right now it is really cold and she has been outside for most of the winter. Will it make her sick to come and stay with me for acouple days in a house? and how will I try and make sure no accidents happen?
thankx

Answer
I think a short indoor break will be easier on an outdoor dog than a week outside would be for an indoor dog.  Be sure she gets plenty of time outside.  Frequent walks will both help with keeping down ''accidents'' and prevent him from going into shedding mode.  Perhaps you can give other dog deprived students a turn walking her while you stay current with your homework.  I occasionally take my puppy to concerts on the local campus here, and am besieged by those that miss their dog they left at home.  To maintain her welcome everywhere she walks, everybody should carry a plastic bag, perhaps a bread wrapper.  Put it over your hand, pick up his stools and turn the bag inside out, tie it, and dump in the trash.
