Question
I am trying to find a way to stop my puppy from jumping up at people. She doesn't do it to me anymore (after many servere NO's) but when she gets excited meeting new people she just cant seem to control herself. I have tried NO lots of times and even put her on her lead and jerked her back when she goes to jump but to no avail. Also as she is getting bigger now and, as I am slightly disabled, it won't be longe before she can pull me over in her excitement. Any suggestions ?

Answer
The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. It is much tougher to teach a dog not to jump up on other people than your self.  A big part of the problem are those that not only tolerate it, but encourage it and pet the dog when she does.  Consistently is very important in correcting jumping and other problems.  Quickly correcting her each and every time she jumps on somebody is very important.  She must never get the affection she wants.  A number of things have been used.  One of the most gentle is to grab her front paws and hold her up.  The traditional knee to the chest or step on her paws are fading from use.  As part of the the trend away from negative methods, just step backwards leaving her front feet to fall to the floor.  After a few tries, the dog may just stand there looking confused.  When you can't use the leash, or even in addition to it, try an 'Ah, ah, ah!''.
