HI LABMAN,    MY DOG ROLLED IN  TAR. ITS ALL OVER THE FUR.  ANY IDEA HOW I CAN GET IT OUT?    THANKS, CONNI

Aruuuuuuuuuuuugh!  Depending how long the hair is, it might be easier to clip off as much as possible.  Unfortunately, he could look awful all summer that way.  

You could use liquid cooking oil as a safe solvent to dissolve it.  As it softens, absorb it with paper towels or rags.  It should eventually do the job.
