Question
i have a 16 month old lab he is good with my dog and my family in my house. outside the house like grooming, vet visits, boarding, ect. he is very uncomfortable to the point we always muzzle him on such visits. we are getting older and our last child will be heading to college next year, he is just to much dog for us and we don't have friends and family over because of fear he might bite someone. all the sources around here will not take him as is and our groomer says put him down. this would be a waste of life, this is a perfectly healthy dog that has no training and has not been exposed to people. we feel he can be trained to make a good pet. please help with places for us to call. we can not keep him much longer. thank you.

Answer
It sounds like a case of a lack of socialization when young.  How much did he see before 12 weeks?  Such problems are hard to fix later.  Try www.petfinders.com.  You may find a Lab rescue near you starting at http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm

Before you give up on him, an obedience class might help with the problem.  Also a private trainer or behaviorist.
