Question
jake is a 5 month old yellow lab about 55 lbs, tall and lean very active.Past couple of weeks he's been having a problem with his bowels being very runny,he currently is on pro plan puppy large breed.Could this have something to do with his bowels? He is fed 3 cups a day 1 cup in the am 2 cups in the pm what should I do?

Answer
When I had my young boys on other dog foods, they seemed very thin and when I gave them more food it would give them the runs.

My suggestion since you are already on Pro Plan (which is what we feed!), move him over to Pro Plan Performance.  It's got a higher percentage of protein/fat and will pack more calories than the Large Breed puppy.  Most likely the reason for the runs is that he's eating 5 cups of food a day and it's just too much food for his body to utilize, so it comes back out.  Put him on 2 cups in the AM and 2 in the PM and see if that fixes the problem.  It's less food but a higher density of calories.

Performance is formulated to be an All Life Stages food, so that means puppies and adults can feed it.  I honestly never even use the Large Breed formulas.  My pups are weaned onto Performance.  If they continue to need the extra calories due to being very active, they stay on it.  If they don't, I move them to the plain Chicken/Rice formula.

Good Luck.
