Scooting reason?

Question
Hello,

I am looking after a labrador for a friend who is overseas. The labrador is always scooting and licking her bottom, but we have only see her doing it when we are with her.

I have read all your reasons for scooting (marking territory, allergies, diseases etc.) but I still can't make out what her reason for scooting is...

Answer
Usually I mention anal glands which is the most common cause.  I am not sure what arrangements you friend made for her care.  I wouldn't try to empty the glands yourself.  A groomer usually will do it, and be cheaper than a vet.  If that fails to solve the problem, thenyou could try a vet.
