Is my dog a pure-bred lab?

Hi.  I recently received a dog as a gift (as an advanced christmas gift for me)from a good friend. He says it's a lab which he got from a breeder in Rizal (I live in the Philippines).

I'm just doubtful if he is a pure-bred lab (though he is registered but I am yet to see his papers).

For one, his head seems to be of the wrong shape for a labrador and his tail is not the usual "otter tail" of the breed.  All other characteristics (webbed paws, coat and color variation, size and temperament/personality) seem to confirm that he is a lab but the head and the tail bother me.

I have read that there are several lines of Lab with field lines generally possessing longer nose and narrower head.

Your help is very much appreciated.

Answer
In the photo, the dog does look like a lab.  But just because it is a purebred registered lab does not mean it's a TO THE STANDARD labrador. Purebred does not always equal WELL bred.  Field, or what we call American, Labs look very much like the dog in your photo.  I am sure the dog will become a well-loved companion regardless.
