Coping with a new baby

Question
I have a 2 year-old golden lab who is very well socialized with dogs and people. We have a nine-month old baby who is now old enough to crawl at the dog, grab his collar, etc. The dog, who is good natured but also a bit skittish, has growled and shown is teeth twice to the baby recently and also has lunged at a person who approached the baby in his stroller. Do you think I need to worry about him biting the baby or people or is he just "communicating" as he does normally with other dogs?  Thanks.

Answer
I think it calls for action.  Having a good pack structure reduces such problems.  The dogs see all the
people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in
the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members
outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by
reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class
or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with
a treat. Start at http://www.dogsbestfriend.com/

The baby and others may not understand dog.  If they fail to get the message to stay away after a growl and showing teeth, the dog may think it needs to move to snapping.  Instead, you must give the dog the message you are top dog and will not tolerate it growling and showing its teeth to the baby or others.

here are some more things to do in addition to a good obedience program,
