Question
Hi Amy,
I was wondering if there are any major behavior differences between male and female labs.  I had two wonderful mutt female dogs as a child, and they were awesome, friendly and loving. I am waiting for a summer litter from the breeder, and I have the chance to pick a prefered sex.  Any insight?

Thank you for your time

Answer
Dear Robin,
Honestly I never found the sex to do anything with the perfect dog it's with the personallity.  Look for the puppy that does not hide from humans, its tail is not under its legs (meaning if you come near it it runs away).  Female labs, though, are more protective over the children. I have one and though she does not bark when a stranger comes near me she watches them, though in a freindly matter.  Males are more of the layed back dog, but both when young have alot of energy to run off.  Thats basically it, I've had few cases where a puppy ran up and jumped on my lap and wouldn't leave, that was the one that went home.  I wish you luck on finding your best friend, if you have any other questions I would love to answer them.
