Question
We've had a pup for about a week now and he just turned 7 wks old today. He's a lab mix and he's starting to show some attitude and behavioral problems. Maybe it's just cause he's so young but he is a biter/chewer and that's what we're most worried about. He's got lots of toys and a large bone he loves but he still chews and bites on everything. Another thing is he doesn't go outside on his own, we have to carry him out there most of the time. He will go to the door on his own sometimes but rarely. Any suggestions? Is it just cause he's too young still, will he grow out of it?

Answer
Dear Darcie,

The chewing is a normal stage for all puppies, esepcially labs.  If you ever catch him bitting a chair or shoe firmly say no and take the shoe away replacing it will one of his toys.  He's teething just like a baby would so he'll stop chewing things when his teeth fall out.  For trying to get him out on his own you go outside first and leave the door open. Call his name and if he takes a stpe toward you praise him (tell him hes a good dog).  If that doesn't work it may just be a phase, but I think it would help alot if you took him out on walks, that will help him become used to the outside.
Tell me how it goes,
Amy
