If labs are related to any wild animals

Are Labradors Retrievers related to any wild animals?

There seems to be controversy about everything and too many scientists are turning their back on science and adopting an agenda.  Maybe 5 years ago the National Geographic published an article saying modern DNA studies pinpoint the dog, including Labs, as descending from the East Asian wolf.  More recently other workers are saying there is just as good of evidence that the dog originated in Africa.  It seems little doubt dogs descended from the wolves, they are still capable of interbreeding.  

So the answer to your quest is that there is strong evidence that yes, they are related to the wolf.  I long for the past where people were more objective.
