malnurished lab

Question
I have acquired a lab about 4 years old that looks like a skeleton. She was nice size but now she looks TERRIBLE. She has been wormed, and the vet told me to feed her purina with the purina canned food with it. I have also mixed eggs and deer meat with it. She is not gaining weight at all and Im afraid I am going to loose her. Can anyone please tell me what to feed her to fatten her up before it is too late!

Answer
If there are no other health problems, it should simply be a matter of feeding her enough.  Most labs will eat as much as they need and look for more.  Just keep increasing what you feed until she slowly starts to gain.  I once was feeding an underweight lab 7 cups of Pro Plan.  If she won't eat more, move up to a meat based chow, The Pro Plan or perhaps Iams.  If she still won't gain weight, the vet will need to look further for physical problems.

To know when to quit, see http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx The healthiest weight may be less than you are used to seeing.  I see no reason to feed the canned or the other things.
