severe food aggression

Question
My 6 month old spaded yellow Lab's food aggression has gone from bad to worse.  We hand feed her with no problems.  Now we have slowly started to introduce the bowl again and she all but attacked my 6'3" husband.  She growls, snarls and literally went after my husband. He was 3 feet away from her at the time.  The problem is escalating even with careful hand feeding.  We are on the verge of considering giving her away.  I am afraid that because we remove the item or food when she acts up, it has increased her fears and has become worse.  HELP!!!!!!!! She has been socialized and trained.  She sits, stays, lays down, "drops" toy when given the command.  It is the object or food and it is becoming unsafe.

Answer
It is possible for a dog to know its commands and obey them while still thinking it is in charge.  Many obedience classes totally fail to teach the dog owner their proper role.  Some of what you need to do is at http://www.dogbreedinfo.com./topdogrules.htm

I am still struggling with being part of the current trend in dog training toward more positive methods.  This comes from an excellent source long familiar with strong willed Labs.  They only breed and train a few hundred of them a year.  Only put part of the food in the dish to start with.  When the food is finished.  Pick up the dish and add more.  As you make additions, the dog will welcome you touching its dish.
